Nicolas Bacri

Nicolas Bacri (b. 1961) is a French composer known for his extensive body of work, including seven symphonies, eleven string quartets, and numerous concertos and chamber pieces. After studying at the Conservatoire de Paris, Bacri had a significant role as the Director of Chamber Music at Radio France (1987–1991), where he introduced French audiences to the works of Shostakovich and composers from Terezin. He has received major commissions and worked internationally, teaching composition and orchestration.

Among his chamber works, Divertimento Op. 37 for string trio, written in 1992 in St. Nazaire, stands out. This piece reflects Bacri’s blend of classical rigor and emotional depth, incorporating modern and postmodern elements that define his style.

In 2020, Riccardo Muti premiered Bacri’s Concertante Elegy for bass clarinet and orchestra, further cementing Bacri’s importance in contemporary music.
